Prince Albert

The drive from Matjiesfontein was one of the least interesting drives. The N2 road is straight and we had one turn off onto another straight road and then arrived in Prince Albert, about 90 mins later.
Prince Albert is situated just to the north of the Swartberg Mountains and is a favourite place for ‘artists, writers and stressed out city dwellers’ – I took that bit out of the guide book.
We had a superb cottage in the grounds of a much larger house. It was exceptionally hot here 40 deg. C and no air con. Needless to say we spent a lot of time sitting around. There were lots of cafes in Prince Albert so we were very often found there watching the world go by.

Albert’s Mill on the edge of town

Relaxing in the heat – I was reading Chris Ryan’s – Watchman – highly recommended

On the Sunday morning, early we went up the Swartberg Pass to see the views. the road is gravel and in good condition so our little car managed the climb. We have a Nissan Tiida for those interested.

Klipspringer – small deer
It’s in the middle of the picture – look hard

The road to ‘The Hell’ - only recommended for 4x4 vehicles.

Prince Albert Knick Knack store – sorry Antique Store

When we left Prince Albert we avoided the Swartberg Pass and went via Meeringspoort and  De Rust the more level option.

This is Meeringspoort with its high waterfall – quite spectacular.
You can just see me below the centre point of the photo.
